This is my stand against SOPA and PIPA. I'm unfortunate in the fact that I can't do more. Living in the UK and not the USA I can't do anymore that spread the opinion and the link to stop this, yet this will still effect me and all of us.

I think is it rediculous that the whole world is being controlled and manipulated by these few people in congress who don't even know what they are doing. They are passing a bill to ban and controll the internet and in yet another way controll our lives.

I'm posting this forum because it will effect this website, it will effect every website. I would love to hear your opinions on this and if you want to help here are some links to various others who feel the same way. I will also put the link to the petition to stop this bill from going through and I hope you will all do your part to save the internet and it's many forms against the government of America. I'm sure there are other ways in which, the american citizens can fight against this and I hope dearly that you will all try to do so.

Here are the links:

TotalBiscuit's opinion:
WowCrendor's opinion:
Petition: http://americancensorship.org/

This forum post contains many copyrighted/pirated infomation and is against the rules of this new law. I honestly don't care and hope that you can help.

Thank you.

You know, when they passed this law and I first heard it... I thought, Wouldn't they be having a monopoly? Didn't AT&T just get in a big fight with the government over one of those? How messed up is this? Please, explain to me because I must not understand the government's silly ways. *-*

I don't believe they've passed the law yet, but the real issue now is ACTA... ACTA is much, much worse than SOPA. If it passes, the government can read your chat messages and monitor your online usage to "ensure no copyright violations occur", and unfortunately, since everyone first learned about SOPA, we don't have nearly as many supporters of ACTA as we do for SOPA, which is very bad.

Do you have a like to a petition against ACTA? I will vote against as it sounds just the same, which I hate.

These two are put on hold for right now, and as Ulti said the real thing now is ACTA. Which is the same (almost) as SOPA and PIPA except for Europe and not the US.

Personally I don't think SOPA or PIPA will ever pass, but if one of them DO, then they'll either be repealed right away or people will find a way around it just like they do with every other law ever.

The other big thing besides these laws is how Megaupload and these types of sites are being taken down.

ACTA isn't just Europe, it's the entire world. There are different laws and regulations all throughout with the different continents and countries, but the gist is the same. The government will track and listen in on anything online related. If anything even remotely copyright sketchy is there, it will be shut down no question.

I personally hate the ideas of people trying to control people.

Just imagine, no more Youtube anymore D: Even when people say where they got their songs from/images their movie will be deleted even though they do say that they got it from another source.

If those bills get passed, there goes the internet -- there would be virtually no site left -- what sites don't have a single thing about copyrighting on it? Even if one users posts something copyrighted the site would be shut down because of it.

Yeah, and I'm praying that this really won't get through. If it does, I'll just kill myself.

even things like wikipedia have copyright material that is unregestered on some of it's pages. There is no way a website can monitor all it's input and output to make sure nothing gets through. The only way I can think that they will be able to do it for the bill is just to shut down the internet and that would put the economy into an even worse state. So long hopes of ever getting a job you want.

Yeah, this is doing a lot of worse than good. Piracy is bad, but not having an Internet is even worse.

and it's not like it will stop piracy, the people who are publish it such things as films and music illegally obviously get it from somewhere, so they still have it and they will just find other ways of selling it or giving it out. Probably through gangs and secret codes ect. Which would be cool as a story/roleplay but not in real life.

Actually in this day and age piracy can be helpful; many people in the music industry benefit because people will buy the music after they've downloaded in (illegally and for free) from iTunes so that they can listen to it on any device.

Now, much piracy is bad, but there's good in it too. It's not this looming evil like everything ever makes it out to be.

Exactly, and it's not even just actual pirating. If people are too afraid to post videos on YouTube or even talk about things they like, then more people will have no way of learning about those things, and then the artists won't stand a chance of ever getting anything for their hard work.

We should take the government, and PUSH THEM TO LEARN ABOUT THE INTERNETS!
